Glocal Roots is a small non-profit organization with projects in Switzerland, Turkey and Greece. Glocal Roots develops projects aimed at increasing and strengthening the resilience and independence of displaced people. We are seeking a new project manager for the Victoria Community Center in Athens from January 2026.
Project Overview:
Since May 2022, we are part of the Victoria Community Center, a collaborative building hosting several organisations and providing holistic services. Glocal Roots operates the centre’s communal spaces, including the café and the safe space for women and children. These welcoming environments serve as central locations for sharing ideas, receiving support and networking. By promoting inclusivity and breaking down social barriers, these spaces not only provide opportunities to access vital resources and form relationships, but also lay the groundwork for social change by advocating for equality and intercultural understanding. We serve coffee, tea and hot lunch, offer different educational activities and workshops and distribute clothes and hygiene items. At the same time we are responsible for the overall management of the building.
The Community Spaces are overseen by the project manager with support of the Fundraising, Communications & Advocacy Lead, the Cafe Coordinator, the Building Coordinator and 10 – 15 external volunteers.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Victoria Community Center Management:
- Partner Management: Point of contact for all questions from partner organisations in the building, MoUs with new partners, Schedules etc.
 - Financial Management of the Victoria Community Center, including Budgets, Payments and accountability towards other partners
 - Facilitating monthly Partners Meeting and monthly Core Partners Meeting, including drafting of Agenda Points and Meeting Minutes
 - Supporting the building coordinator in case of absence
 - Activity Planning and Coordination
 
HR:
- Conducting regular meetings with the Building Coordinator and the Cafe Coordinator
 - Responsible for overseeing staff contracts, including coordination with accounting
 - Responsible for salary payments
 - Being the point of contact for all questions of staff members
 
Fundraising:
- Supporting the Fundraising, Communications and Advocacy Lead in fundraising efforts, including writing and submitting proposals to foundations and companies
 
Volunteer Management
- Serving as the primary contact for volunteers, conducting induction meetings, monthly check-ins, handling feedback, and issuing letters of recommendation as needed
 - Weekly scheduling
 - Managing the volunteers apartment
 - Organising regular trainings and providing safeguarding trainings
 - Onboarding new volunteers and facilitating bi-weekly team meetings
 
Finance
- Overseeing accounting practices, managing payments, and ensuring financial transparency and accountability
 - Overseeing Budgets
 
Additional General Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities
 - Supporting the development and implementation of new project activities for refugees and asylum seekers in Athens
 - Ensuring the maintenance of the space to provide a conducive working environment
 - Handling general administrative tasks as required
 
Knowledge and Experience:
- Prior experience in the non-profit sector, especially in project coordination
 - Work experience within a forced migration context
 - A strong passion for refugee issues and advocacy
 - Capability to thrive in a challenging and dynamic work environment
 - Exceptional communication and writing skills in English, with proficiency in additional languages such as Greek, German, Arabic, Farsi, or French being highly desirable

What is the Victoria Community Centre?
The Victoria Community Centre, based in Athens, Greece, is a collaborative, and community-based effort of 8 partner organizations to provide essential resources, support services, and a sense of belonging to the city’s diverse population.
Glocal Roots operates the community cafe at the Victoria Community Centre, a welcoming hub that serves approximately 150 visitors daily. The cafe offers a vital connection point where visitors access information about different services, join activities, enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, and receive hot meals in a relaxed, supportive environment.
We’re looking for a Project Management intern to join our team in mid-January 2026. Working alongside our dedicated volunteers and Cafe coordinator, you’ll help drive the planning and execution of food-related initiatives and community-building activities that deepens the role of the Cafe in the Victoria Community Center.
Purpose:
Project administration, daily shift lead and community building
Key responsibilities:
- Support in the successful implementation of cafe activities in the centre including working in partnership with partners, manager and security team to deliver logistics and successful daily distribution of food.
 - Support in the daily volunteer coordination and shift management
 - Assist the Cafe Coordinator with the management of stock levels and inventory, ensuring efficient operations within budget.
 - Support all project tasks, including reporting, monitoring and evaluation of activities, to ensure the project is delivered within scope and in line with needs of visitors.
 - Build and maintain partnerships with suppliers and partners.
 - Maintain a clean and hygienic space to high standards together with the team of volunteers
 - Create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and volunteers.
 
Essential Requirements:
- Ability to take initiative and manage tasks independently
 - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse team and interact with visitors and volunteers.
 - Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage stock, schedules, and operational tasks efficiently.
 - Ability to manage last-minute changes and problem solving skills on the ground
 - Leadership qualities to inspire the cafe team and make decisions under pressure.
 - Proficient in written and spoken English.
 - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
 - Drivers License is mandatory for this position
 
Desired Requirements:
- Experience working with diverse and vulnerable communities
 - Previous experience in a hospitality setting
 - Knowledge in context relevant languages (Greek, Arabic, Farsi, French, Dari)

This internship consists of working in the community cafe (60%) and administrative project management tasks (40%). It aims to provide the successful candidate with valuable insight into the daily and strategic operations of a humanitarian project as well as provide field experience. Female Fundraising, Communications & Advocacy Intern
Glocal Roots is a grassroots organisation operating in Greece and Switzerland since 2019, our solution: breaking the dependency cycle by building resilience and autonomy. We build structures and networks that support displaced people to become resilient, autonomous and self-reliant again!
We are part of the Victoria Community Center, a building in the center of Athens hosting different specialised organisations. As Glocal Roots we are responsible for the community spaces in the VCC. We offer clean, safe, and supportive community spaces every day. Children can enjoy their time in our child-friendly area, which is equipped with arts and craft materials as well as many toys to play with. In the designated textile maker space, we offer refugee women the opportunity to attend sewing courses, sew independently. or become part of our sewing project (for very good seamstresses). Besides that we offer different activities depending on the skills of the volunteers and the needs of the women visiting our center.
Doing your internship with Glocal Roots gives you the opportunity to combine an academic internship with gaining very practical on the ground experience in a grassroots organisation working with refugees. Parts of your internship will be focused on developing your communication and fundraising skills, the other part will be supporting the rest of the team through general volunteering. This means you will also do shifts in the Victoria Community Center where you register people, serve coffee and tea, work with children and make everyone feel welcome in the space.
Key responsibilities of the job include:
- Assist with social media and communication content creation
 - Write the quarterly newsletter
 - Research and draft advocacy articles and blog posts for the website
 - Support in project reporting and documentation
 - Develop and implement fundraising initiatives to support the center’s activities
 - Assist with grant research and applications
 - Support donor engagement through storytelling and impact reporting
 - Organise a fundraising event in Athens
 - Support with the communication and content creation around the online shop
 - Providing appropriate support and guidance to children in the Kid’s space
 - Providing social support including maintaining an environment that builds the confidence, resilience and self-esteem of our visitors
 - Attend weekly team meetings
 - Remaining flexible based on the project needs
 
Your desired set of skills:
- Fluency in English is required, French/Arabic/Farsi or German is an asset.
 - Photography skills
 - Experience in external communication, social media and advocacy is an asset
 - Previous experience in Fundraising
 - An awareness and interest in migration issues and sensitivity to working with vulnerable communities
 - Motivation and passion for working alongside a dynamic and hard-working team
